Abstract

This article examines the link between man and technology from the human (philosophy) perspectiveand provides a Heideggerian frame to the problem: Ours are the days where ‘modern technology’controls Man. History of technology can be studied in two periods that mark the period before andafter technology met with ‘modern’ science. Technology became an important tool for scientificresearch from the 17th century onwards and this has paved the way for new scientific findings. Yet,one must never forget that social and cultural relations have always affected all human activitiesand products; and science and technology are no exceptions. So much that ‘market’ relations, as they are founded upon ‘profit’ and utilitarian and pragmatic reason, have redefined science and technology in line with their own principles and objectives. Two indicators to this are over-expertise and engineering that grows a new branch every day. The article also puts forth Heidegger’s view on the solution of Man’s strife resulting from his relation with ‘modern’ technology on the face of the fact that technology is indispensible for him
