Abstract

This article is devoted to Alain Robbe-Grillet and his book A sentimental novel (Fayard, 2007).This is a “sadistic” account, and not a “sadien” novel, which encourages to exceed contradiction between “fiction” like vector of creation and “truth” as a necessarily illusory representation of reality. According the writer, Thanatos which reveals the mirror of the writing but this one is only the reversed mask of Eros. In fact, the writing of A sentimental novel seems to have met the need for Alain Robbe-Grillet “to survey” its individual and artistic route in the light of an Oedipus reflected in the image of death
