Abstract
Having faced with death both in his life and in his poems, Cahit Sıtkı is one of the leading poets who dreaded, avoided; however, treated death in his works. Feeling the death, mortality at every moment, also realizing its “inevitability”, the poet tries various ways to fight against, to defeat, at least, shift (postpone) it. Not only did he focus on the gloomy, tragic aspects of death, but also he handled the bright, infinite and pleasuring side of the life. The poet’s struggle against death and mortality is based on existing in the subject-object relation and “sensuousness by prioritizing those belonging to this world. “Genesis process” of life which continues with all its dynamism and harmony stands against the dark, destructive face of death. In Cahit Sıtkı, the main actors of this genesis process creating immortality are the “world of things” and “its order” that are immanent to the plane of existence, continuously emphasized in his poems to perpetuate the “phenomenal world” and connecting us to “this world”. In this context, when a phenomenological reduction is considered, in Cahit Sıtkı, “absolute essence” of all things emerges as “immortality”
