Abstract
Metin Turan, one of the contemporary poets of present day Turkish Literature, deals with the rela- tion between the poet and space in his works. Especially in his works entitled Suları Islatan Mec- nun and Sokaklar Kentler Ülkeler the poet deals with spatial considerations and tries to define the meaning behind the presence of humanity or rather tries to find a meaning for it existance. In the- se works Metin Turan presents us with a different conception of space, and in his poetic use of the urban language manages to concoct an undeniable relation between poet-poetry. The spaces which we inhabit are all aspects of our personality and identity. They provide clues about who we are. Thus, space has an undeniable influence in the development of our character and personality. Po- ets are especially gifted in creating strong bonds with the environments into which they are born. It is as if there is a secret and strong link between the two. This work concentrates on how Metin Tu- ran deals with the spatial factors in his two poems mentioned above and the poetic urban language concocted by the author will also be a subject of interest
