Abstract

Written in French by a French writer of Chilean origin Roberto Gac, La Société des HommesCélestes, subtitled Un Faust latino-américain, is firstly a whole revolutionary exercise of style, asYaël Hirsch underlines it. On the basis of the founders texts of Faust (the popular tale of the 16thcentury, literary versions of Marlowe, Lenau, Goethe, Valery, Boulgakov, Thomas Mann, Pessoa,Bittern, etc and musical versions of Gounod, Berlioz, Wagner and Liszt), Roberto Gac proposes tothe reader the shape of a new work: the intertexte, which derives from all these novels at the sametime. Indeed, the work, which has an open structure weaves then its canvas in ‘intertext’; it is thusin a perpetual movement. As defined by the author himself, the intertext corresponds to a flexibletale which proceeds in a field open to the interrelationships with other texts. La Société des hommesCélestes the interrelationship is established thus with traditional Faust stories, thanks to the bondsestablished by the quotations. These quotations are closely combined with the structure of theprincipal text, transforming it into a place of dialogues with the other authors. It is in this sense tha one can speak about the” intertexte” as a new literary gender, derived from the novel, like the novelitself derived formerly from the epic.
