Abstract
Though in terms of literary works Halide Edip Adıvar and George Sand have little in common, the- se two leading literary woman have a lot in common in terms of the facts that they did not fit the molds of the societies in which they lived, and even led others to do the same and thus were gifts to the societies in which they - lived in a sense. We may note that both authors lived at a time when there were radical changes in their countries and reflected this in their works. In Turkish and French literature the rooted change in social life lives was reflected in their works. The paper reveals both biographical and autobiographical facts about these women who are much more than the composi- te of the novels they have written. Thus, the aim was to reassess some details left in the dark, unqu- estioned, in a critical manner. The conclusion reached was that a new approach could be to compa- ratively study the two lives referred to which exceed the lives of the actual people who lived them could yield fruitful insight into other things
