Abstract

The concept of postmodernism was first used in the artistic circles of the sixties. On the one hand, postmodernism was possible on account of autoreferentiality, irony, ambiguity and parody which characterize a great deal of modern art, but also on account of linguistic researches and challenges of classical system of realistic representation. On the other hand, postmodernist fiction intends to contest the modern ideology of the artistic autonomy and of individual expression and it also aims at a deliberate separation of art from popular culture and from daily activity.
