Abstract

After having studied certain poems from The Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire and Black Pearls by Mehmed Rauf, it is possible to accentuate the similarity between the characters of these two poets. Both of them feel the same suffocation and isolation in the presence of atrocious reality which is nothing but the visible form of an invisible universe. These two poets who had to lead a life in an infuriating world and oscillate between good and evil find themselves in a reasonless melancholic state defined as “spleen” which is both a source of inspiration to extract beauty from evil and a source of anxiety of existence. So as to overcome this state and the reflection of misery of the human condition, they resort to death the savior as a last hope, for it grants them an eternal salvation.
