Abstract

Although the concept of intertextuality, defined as “the intersection of texts”, has been addressed from different perspectives by many scientists, the common point dealt with has been the emphasis made on the interconnection of texts. In its broadest sense, this connection, called “intertextuality, as Riffaterre points out, allows the reader to do countless readings, including a comparative reading, depending on his/her cognitive repertoire. Taking the hypotext of Sophocles entitled Antigone as the basis, this study aims to uncover the intertextual elements in the hypertext penned by Anouilh with the same title. In identification and classification of these elements, the approaches of Mihail Bakhtine, Julia Kristeva, Michael Riffaterre and Gerard Genette will be drawn on.
