Abstract
This paper analyses Nedim Gürsel’s short story entitled Love in the Afternoon from his book ofshort stories with the same title. The love story starts in Paris and continues in Athens. Themes suchas towns, women, loneliness and longing form the basis of the story. Love, sexuality, eroticism andpassion in especially the depiction of women and the recitation have been undertaken in a way asto underline space. These notions which appear as themes in the story serve to depict the feelingsand the sharing between the lovers. In addition to this Istanbul the yearning for ones’ mother, someviews and criticisms of political and social matters are subjects that are assessed within the scopeof the emotional and physical communion of the two lovers. Thus the story is not only a story of alove which has left its mark it also has a narrative style which deals with carnal love and social andpolitical phenomena.
