Abstract

History, in the history of philosophy, had been priorly started to be takenup as a philosophical discipline and been inquired to expose its scientificfoundations by İbn Khaldun. He is the first thinker that investigates historicalfacts and their manifestations in social life with a method which would help todiscover them in their causality. Therefore Ibn Khaldun is accepted as thefounder of a new science as he was also aware. In this respect he designates themethod, the basic concepts and problems, and the subjects and subsubjects ofthis new science. The subject of this new science is the social life of humanbeing; and its material is the observable historical and social facts. Furthermorethis historical material enables him to constitude an authentic state theory.According to this theory, all of the stages of the state that passed from itsestablishment to its collapsing are tied up to each other with the chain ofcausality.
