Abstract
Purpose: Balance and gait analysis results of visually impaired and sighted youngsters were compared in this study. Material and Methods: Twenty visually impaired (mean age: 17±1.3 years) and sex and age matched twenty sighted (control group, mean age: 18±0!5 years) subjects were included. Balance of the subjects was assessed by determining the duration of standing on öne leg by a chronometer (seç). Gait of the subjects was analysed in regards to distance and time characteristics. Footprints were used to determine stride length (cm), step length (cm), base of support (cm), rotation amount of foot (degree) and gait velocity (cm/sec). in addition, 50 yards (45.7m) running test was used to evaluate speed and agility (seç). Data were analysed by using Student's t test and level of significance was set at p0.05), but there was signifıcant difference betvveen the groups in favour of the sighted subjects when the test results were performed with opened eyes (p
