Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effıcacy of manual therapy vvhich is widely used in the recent years in the orthopedic rehabilitation of distal radius fractures. Material and Methods: A total of 30 patients with distal radius fracture who required rehabilitation after completing their medical treatment were included in the study. The patients undergoing the rehabilitation program were assigned to öne of the two groups, each containing 15 patients. Group I was treated with a conventional physiotherapy and rehabilitation program vvhich consisted of heat modality, transcutaneal electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and exercise for the vvrist. Group II undervvent the same rehabilitation program with additional manual therapy for the related joints and soft tissues. AO patients in both groups were evaluated for range of motion (ROM), pain level and duration of rehabilitation before and after the treatment and the results were compared within each group and also betvveen the groups. Results: Statistically significant improvements were found in pain and ROM for both groups following treatment (p
