Abstract

Evaluation of results of Paffenbarger Physical Activity Index in physical therapy and rehabilitation students Purpose: This study was planned to determine physical activity level and to evaluate its relation to cardiorespiratory endurance in physical therapy and rehabilitation students. Material and methods: 90 students participated in the study. Students' physical activity levels were determined by Paffenbarger Physical Activity Index. Twelve-minute walk test was given to subjects to assess cardiorespiratory endurance. Results: The student's mean weekly energy expenditure based on physical activity was 1887,3±1776,2 kcal. There was a positive linear relationship between distance covered at the twelve minutes walk test and weekly energy expenditure. Regular exercise habit was determined as the most important variable that affected the weekly energy expenditure based on physical activity. Conclusion: This study showed that, regular exercise habit was the most important variable of the weekly energy expenditure and the importance of physical activity for cardiorespiratory endurance.
