Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of our study was to compare the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of patients with symptomatic and asymptomatic neck and neck-arm pain. Material and method: A total of 160 cases, with 80 symptomatic (22 males, 58 females, mean age 40.6 years) and 80 asymptomatic (24 males, 56 females, mean age 40.5 years) patients aged between 20 and 50 were included in the study. The cervical MRI was conducted using a 1.5 tesla equipment, with Tl and T2 imaging in the sagittal and T2 imaging in the axial planes. All MRIs were interpreted by two radiologists in accordance with the scale developed by Matsumato. Results: There were no significant differences in findings of the first and second degree disc degenerations and anterior disc protrusions between symptomatic and asymptomatic patients (p>0.05). The occurrence of first and second degree disc protrusions, narrowing of the intervertebral space and foraminal stenosis were significantly more frequent in symptomatic patients (p
