Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of body awareness therapy (BAT) in treatment of patients with symptoms such as pain, sleep disturbances, muscle spasms and relaxation problems related to the musculoskeletal system. Material and methods: 37 (84%) females, 7 males (16%) a total of 44 subjects with a mean age of 38.64±7.96 years and different musculoskeletal problems were included in the study. The study consisted of two groups. The first group (11 females, 4 males) received only BAT; the second group (26 females, 3 males) received different physiotherapy and rehabilitation applications and BAT. BAT which was consists of relaxation, positioning, breathing control, body awareness, control of pain, posture and alignment was given for 3 months, twice a week, on an individual basis. Every session continued for 1 hour and at the end of the therapy a home exercise program was given to the subjects. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the subject’s pain, sleep disturbances and fatigue levels during the day. Subjects were also evaluated with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). Results: At the end of the 3 months pain, sleep disturbances and fatigue levels were decreased in both groups (p
