Abstract
Oil price is one of the important macroeconomic factors that determine both economic activity and investor decision. The aim of this study is to reveal the effects of crude oil price on the chemical, petroleum & plastics (XKMYA), Industry (XUSIN) and Transportation (XULAS) indices of Istanbul Borsa Istanbul Exchange in the long and short term. In order to question this effect, the price movements of the relevant indices were analyzed in the period of January 4th, 2000 to July 23rd, 2020. In this context, analysis was performed using the co integration test developed by Bayer and Hanck (2012). The results obtained showed that the oil price variable positively affected the ISE Chemical, Petroleum & Plastics (XKMYA), ISE industry (XUSIN) and ISE Transportation (XULAS) index variables for 3 models considered in the long term. In addition, the price of crude oil was found to have a higher impact on the related sector indices in the short term.
