Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of interval from first detected mounting activity to artificial insemination on conception rates in cows.A total of 94 cows were used in this study. Cows were visually observed three times a day for behavioral signs of estrus. Progesterone levels were determined using progesteron test kits to confirm whether the cows were in estrus at insemination time. They were divided into three groups according to interval from first mounting activity to artificial insemination. Then, they were inseminated between 0 h and 8 h (Group I), 8 h and 16 h (Group II), 16 h and 24 h (Group III) after first detected mount. The conception rates were determined by rectal palpation on 55-60th days following artificial insemination. The average rate of cows which showed behavioral signs of estrous but had high concentrations of progesterone (>1 ng/ml) was recorded as 16.0%in this study. It was observed that the conception rate was significantly lower in cows which inseminated within 8 h after first detected mount (p
