Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes of the intended medical students towards social sex roles and other factors affecting this attitude . Material and Method: In the cross-sectional study, 79.6 % of the students were reached (N=570). The number of students participating in the survey was 454. The survey data collection tool is a questionnaire consisting of 55 questions. The attitudes of students towards gender roles were assessed by the Gender Role and Attitude Scale (TCRSS). Results: The average age of the students is 20,8 ± 2,38 and 45,4% are male students. The average score of the students in the TCRSS is 158.7 ± 21.7. There was no statistically significant difference between the student and their class according to the point of attitude towards gender roles. Female students, mothers, separated parents, members of social clubs have more egalitarian attitudes, while siblings have more traditional attitudes. Conclusion: Students in the medical faculties often have attitudes towards gender equality. Medical education does not affect attitudes towards gen- der roles.
