Abstract

Objective: Hydatid cyst (HC) is a common health problem in Turkey. The aim of our study is to retrospectively evaluate patients who have undergone percutaneous liver hydatid cyst treatment and whose diagnosis is confirmed, together with blood tests, and to evaluate the utility of these tests in the diagnosis of HC. Material and Method: Eighty-four patients (mean age 44 years) who underwent percutaneous hydatid cyst treatment were included in the study. The cyst contents of the patients treated with PAIR and catheterization method, indirect hemagglutination test (IHT) and eosinophil count results were evaluated retrospectively. Results: IHT was positive in 50 of 69 patients with a definite diagnosis of HC, and negative in 19. IHT was positive in 3 of 15 patients without HC, and negative in 12. There was a statistically significant relationship between the presence of HC and the IHT result (p
