Abstract
One of the most significant theoretical consequences of the change in the world in the post-September 11 period is the decline of the postmodernist discourse. In my opinion, this claim has two (theoretical and practical) justifications. Theoretically, with postmodernism, all the theories, concepts and structures within modernist ideology have been deconstructed and there is nothing left to deconstruct. Practically, to a great extent, the political vacuum experienced in the 1990s in the world has been filled in with security policies pursued by the main elements of the West under the leadership of the United States and ‘cluster of unlimited truths’ which corresponds to this deviousness has been confronted with a new logic of truth regime. Arguably, the decline of postmodernist discourse has created the opportunity to find a new framework that brings together both the significant values of modernity and the rightful criticisms of postmodernism. In line with this, this study will discuss the future of the social sciences within the context of the contributions of the critical social theory. The relationship between critical theory and social sciences will be investigated and the ways of intervening in the social practices with social sciences will be discussed through the concepts of nominalist analysis, immanent critique and refl exive perspective.
