Abstract
The argument that philosophy is a “Greek Miracle” having emerged in Ancient Greece is claimed remarked frequently by the Western. These claimants describe the East as barbarian, underdeveloped communities far from the philosophy. The perspective of the West towards the East is prejudiced and ideological. Hermes, who is considered as the Father of Philosophy, is an Eastern mythological figure. Many Eastern communities mainly Sumerians, Egyptians, Indians and Chinese have considerably contributed to the science and philosophy. However, scientific and philosophical insight and perspective of these two cultures are quite different from each other. The West highlights knowledge and written culture; whereas, the East prioritizes living, experience and oral culture. In opposition to the rationalist thought of the West, the East notices other ways of obtaining knowledge such as intuition, imagination and inspiration. Nevertheless, metaphysics, which West has neglected in recent times, still continues to survive in the East. Today, even if the West considers the Eastern wisdom as mysterious, secretive, interesting and even if the West is unfamiliar to Eastern thought, it still remains as an alternative perspective. In this study, Eastern wisdom will be introduced in general terms; its similarities and differences with Western philosophy will be set forth
