Abstract

One of the people that offered an insight into today’s world from the past is Al-Kindī (c. 801–873 AD) who left behind a serious tot of cultural heritage. Al-Kindī is a scholar and a raisonneur who is considered to initiate the systematic philosophy in the Islamic history of thought, and who contributed tremendously to the formation of a philosophical terminology. He concentrated heavily on Physics and Metaphysics in his studies. However, assuming the task to introduce the Western thought to the Islamic world, Al-Kindī’s statements and expectations on education that he saw as a means for a person to reach perfection have importance. Al-Kindī believed that all sciences must be tought with an eye to a method and an objective, in accordance with proper methods and syllabuses. On that sense, all education must be applied with an objective, a method, and a program of a kind. Here this study gets in a struggle to bring Al-Kindī’s views relative to education into view. Al-Kindī laid weight on habit and environment in education, and emitted the poorness of the knowledge that is acquired through memorization without understanding and comprehension. Likewise, he recommended to obtain information taking notes for one can use it later in time.
