Abstract
Purpose:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the upper extremity functions in patients with cerebrovascular accident. Material and Methods: Twenty one adults who were hospitalized at the Department of Neurology, Erciyes University were included in the study. We compared our findings with the findings of 21 healthy persons. Motor ability (Motricity index),dexterity (Frenchay arm test and Nine hole peg test), Everyday Activities (Functional independence measure), Ayres sensory integration (visual, somatosensory perceptions and motor performance), Spasticity (Ashworth scale) and bilateral Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SEPs) to stimulation of median nerve were evaluated in all patients within the first week, and three months after the onset of stroke.Patients in both groups were treated with physiotherapy, five days per week, for a total of three weeks. Results: Significant improvement between the first and the second examinations was found(p
