Bulgular: Araştırma bölgesinde temiz içme suyuna sahip hanelerin oranı %83.1'den %97.7'ye, kanalizasyona bağlı tuvalet oranı %6.7'den %39.0'a, yükselmiştir. Televizyon, radyo, buzdolabı ve telefona sahip olan ailelerin oranı, sırasıyla %86.8'den %97.2'ye, %80.6'dan %88.3'e, %80.4'ten %96.5'e ve %7.1'den %82.6'ya yükselmiştir. Öte yandan, kaba doğum hızının binde 25.4'ten 18.3'e, bebek ölüm hızının binde 86.4'ten 34.5'e düştüğü, kaba ölüm hızının ise binde 6.8'den 8.5'e yükseldiği belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Bölgede sağlık düzeyini etkileyen faktörlerin önemli ölçüde iyileştiği, fakat bebek ölüm hızı gibi bazı göstergelerin halen oldukça yüksek olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
Abstract
Purpose : This study was carried out to determine the changes of demographic and health indicators in a region which was constituted for the education of medical students about public health between 1985 and 1998. Materials and Methods: The region included urban and rural areas, and the population was 107172 in 1985 and 119405 in 1998. Two studies were performed in this region; one of them in 1985 and the other in 1998. In these studies, 2784 households in 1985 and 3000 households in 1998 were sampled randomly. A similar questionnaire was applied to the adults in both studies using the personel communication method. Results: The percentage of households with an access to safe water increased from 83.1% to 97.7% and households with an access to adequate sanitation increased from 6.7% to 39.0% between 1985 and 1998. The percentages of the families having a television, radio, refrigerator and telephone increased from 86.8% to 97.2 %, 80.6% to 88.3%, 80.4% to 96.5% and 7.1% to 82.6% respectively. It was determined that crude birth rate decreased from 25.4 to 18.3 per thousand, crude death rate increased from 6.8 to 8.5 per thousand and infant mortality rate decreased from 86.4 to 34.5 per thousand. Conclusion : It was determined that the factors affecting health status improved but some indicators such as infant mortality rate was still high in the region.
