Abstract

The nasal cavity is an uncommon site for a cavernoushemangioma. Cavernous hemangiomas of middleturbinates are very rare. Pneumatization of the middleturbinate, also known as concha bullosa, is a commonanatomical variation of the sinonasal region. Wedescribe a case of a cavernous hemangioma of thenasal cavity with a prediagnosis of concha bullosa ofthe middle turbinate according to computedtomography (CT) findings. Paranasal CT studiesshowed pneumatization of the middle concha. Giventhe prediagnosis, partial resection of the middleturbinate was performed instead of complete resection. The patient was followed up for 2 years. There was noenlargement of the middle turbinate after surgery.Three interesting aspects of the present case were therarity of the site of the hemangioma, nonspecificsymptoms, and radiological findings, which pointed toa different pathology i.e., concha bullosa. To ourknowledge, this is the first reported case in the Englishliterature of cavernous hemangioma with aprediagnosis of concha bullosa.
