Abstract
Today, intensive agricultural production and developing technology bring about many negative issues such as environmental pollution and causes the emergence of problems particularly in agricultural products that threaten human health. One of these problems is the intensive heavy metal contamination observed in the soils of our country in recent years. Due to this intensive heavy metal contamination, plants are negatively affected, and as result, the products harvested from these plants pose a great threat to public health. Heavy metal contamination in the soil is one of the important environmental problems, and this accumulation has a significant impact not only on soil fertility and the functions of the ecosystem but also on the health of animals and human beings through the food chain. In this study, Akhisar district which has large agricultural areas was chosen, and the sampling was conducted in the gardens where grapes, cotton and corn are grown through irrigation. Soil samples were analyzed in order to determine the available amounts of Hg, Co, Cd, Cr, Pb, Sb, As and Se elements present in these soils, and the findings were evaluated by taking the limit values reported by Klok (1980) into account. It was determined that the soils did not pose any pollution problems in terms of heavy metals investigated.
