The Factors Affecting Internet Addiction in Adolescents

Özet

Amaç: Araştırma ergenlerde internet bağımlılığını etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amacı ile kesitsel olarak yapılmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırmanın evrenini batıda bir ilde Milli Eğitim İl Müdürlüğüne bağlı 22 Devlet Okulunu temsilen dokuz liseoluşturmuştur. Örneklem büyüklüğü evreni bilinen örnekleme yöntemi ile hesaplanmış olup olası kayıplarda göz önüne alınarak %30yedek eklenmiş ve örneklem büyüklüğü 355 olarak belirlenmiştir. Örnekleme alınacak öğrencilerin okullara göre tabakalamasıyapılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri Mayıs 2018-Aralık 2018 tarihleri arasında, araştırmacılar tarafından literatür doğrultusundahazırlanan anket formu ve İnternet Bağımlılığı Ölçeği (İBÖ) ile toplanmıştır.Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %63.1’i kadın ve yaş ortalamaları 16.47±1.14’dür. İlaveten öğrencilerin %67.3’üinternete evden bağlandığını ifade etmiş, %92.6’sı internete erişim aracı olarak akıllı telefonu,%40.7’si kişisel bilgisayarınıkullanmaktadır. Öğrencilerin %70.8’i sıklıkla hem hafta içi hem hafta sonu, %36.9’u gün içinde en çok 18-21 saatleriarasında, %40.4’ü günde 1-3 saat internet kullandıklarını belirtmiştir. Öğrencilerin %55.8’i internet kullanımlarının ebeveynleritarafından denetlenmediğini bildirmiştir. Öğrencilerin İBÖ puan ortalaması 29.12±18.89 olup, internet bağımlılığını hem hafta içihem de hafta sonu internet kullanmanın (p=0.000),gün içinde en çok internet kullanılan saat diliminin (p=0.011),gün içinde internetkullanım süresinin (p=0.000), sosyal medya üyeliğinin(p=0.013)ve internet kullanımlarının ebeveynleri tarafından kontroledilmemesinin (p=0.029)etkilediği bulunmuştur.Sonuç: Öğrencilerin internet bağımlılığını hem hafta içi hem de hafta sonu internet kullanma durumunun, interneti kullanıldığı saatdiliminin, internet kullanım süresinin, sosyal medya üyeliği ve internet kullanımının ebeveynler tarafından denetlenmemesininetkilediği belirlenmiştir. Öğretmenlere ve ailelere bağımlılık ile ilgili farkındalık eğitimlerinin düzenlenmesi, öğrencilere sosyalaktivitelerini arttırıcı alanların sağlanması yararlı olabilir.

Abstract

Aim: The research was conducted analytic cross-sectional with the aim of determining the factors affecting internet addiction in adolescents. Material and Methods: The population of the research was composed of nine high schools representing the 22 State Schools of the Provincial Directorate of National Education in one of the western provinces of the country. The sample size was calculated using the precision sampling method and considering the possible losses, a 30% reserve was added and the sample size was calculated as 355. The students in the sample were stratified according to the schools. The data of the research was collected by the questionnaire form prepared by the researchers in line with the literature and Internet Addiction Scale. Results: 63.1% of the students participating in the research are female and their average age is 16.47 ± 1.14. In addition, that 67.3% of the students stated that they are connected to the internet from home, 92.6% of them use their smart phones and 40.7% of them use their personal computers. 70.8% of the students stated that they frequently use the internet both on weekdays and on weekends, 36.9% during the day, mostly between 18-21 hours, and 40.4% using 1-3 hours a day. 55.8% of students reported that their internet use was not controlled by their parents The Internet Addiction Scale mean score of the students was 29.12±18.89 and it was found that internet addiction was affected by; the internet use both on weekdays and at the weekends (p=0.000),the time when internet was most frequently used within the day (p=0.011),the duration of internet use within the day (p=0.000),social media membership (p=0.013), and the fact that internet use was not controlled by the parents (p=0.029). Conclusion: In accordance with these results, it is suggested that initiative and qualitative studies should be conducted to define the internet addictions of the students.
