Abstract

The search for a solution to end the conflict between two sides in Cyprus has continued since the World War II. The establishment of the Republic of Cyprus was an unsuccessful attempt. In 1974 the Island was de facto divided; the Greek Cypriots remained in the southern part while Turkish Cypriots remained in The North. To this date, efforts to end this division have produced little outcome. The EU’s acceptance of Greek Cyprus as the representative of the whole Island has made UN Annan Plan redundant. In this study, the process mentioned above is examined with due detail and special attention is paid to the UN and EU’s involvement.
