Abstract

The goal of all countries regardless of their economic development positions is to improve or at least to preservetheir economic welfare levels. Stable economic growth stands out for developing economies to become a welfare economy. Onthe other hand, stable growth rates, job creation, and equal income distribution are other important topics for developingeconomies as well as Turkey.A growth oriented photograph of Turkey after 1980, in the context of political economy, has beentaken and it is analyzed in this study. It has been determined that as a result of opening Turkish economy into internationalcompetition without adequate preparations in 1980 and also integrating Turkey into the global financial system throughout the1990s, a distorted economic structure with an uneven income distribution, a high unemployment rate, and a high degree ofdependency on foreign resources has appeared.
