Hz. Mûsâ’nın“kef-i beyzâ” mucizesiyle de ilişkilendirilen zanbak, buanlam alanıyla özellikle 16. yüzyıl şairlerininDîvân’larında yer bulmuştur. Gül, nergis, sünbül gibisevgilinin tesir edici güzellik unsurlarıyla özdeşleşememesive lalenin 18. yüzyılda kazandığı popülarite, zanbağınsonraki yüzyıllarda Dîvân’larda fazla yer bulamamasınasebep olmuştur.
Abstract
Lilium (zanbac) is an elegant flower with nice fragrancethat gained symbolic meanings in ancient civilizations, mythology and religious myths. In time, it symbolizedinnocence, chastity and purity. White lilium also known asthe Madonna lilium is identified with Virgin Marry, too.In religious icon and paintings, lilium is mentioned as a“dynasty flower” in the West countries. In the meantime, lilium had a special place in Turkish gardens with its tallstem and pure white flowers. Due to its aesthetic image, itis a source of inspiration to the poets of the ClassicalTurkish literature that observes nature down to its tiniestdetails. As a corollary, this paper browses the Dîvân ofmany poets who wrote poems in different centuries, so asto track the use of lilium in Classical Turkish poetry. In thecouplets identified, it is seen that the lilium is compared tothe nose and fingers of the lover. But this depiction oranalogy is not persistently seen since a nose or fingers arenot attractive for a lover all the time. Lilium, opening upother image doors to the poets with its aesthetic outlook, isalso the highlight in a Turkish flower garden, thanks to itslong stem and yellow seeds in the center. Analogies aredrawn between this flower and objects such as bâzûbend, candle, mecmua, column etc. Lilium, associated with themiracle of “kef-i beyzâ” by Prophet Moses is commonlyelaborated in the Dîvân of the poets of the 16th century, inthis regard. In a nutshell, since it was not identified withstrong attractive beauty features of a lover as much as arose, a narcissus or a hyacinth etc. and tulip gainedpopularity in the 18th century, lilium could not gain aplace anymore in Dîvân, in the following centuries.
