Gebelerin %78’i primigravidadır.

Abstract

Background: With advancements in technology many expectant parents have begun to use the internet as a source of information. Objectives: This study was conducted for the purpose of defining the types of information needed by pregnant women who use interactive antenatal counseling on the web. Methods: This descriptive type of study was conducted on the web site: http://web.deu.edu.tr/gebelik. One researcher assumed responsibility for maintaining this web page. Pregnant women who wanted counseling became members of the web page in the new registration section. Of the members 41 pregnant women comprised the research sample. Using the password given to them they were able to access the counseling page and ask their questions. The questions asked on the web page were sent to the researcher’s email address. After the question was received counseling was sent back by email within 48 hours at the latest. After answering the question communication continued with the pregnant woman until all of her questions were answered to her satisfaction. Results: The pregnant women’s mean age was 29.2±3.6 years and 92.7% had a university or higher level of education. Of the pregnant women 78% were primigravida. The pregnant women asked a total of 106 questions. The questions that were asked by women were classified in four groups about pregnancy, childbirth, fetal health and newborn. The area with the highest percentage of questions was pregnancy at 53.7%. Conclusion: It was determined that, in particular, highly educated pregnant women take advantage of the web because of their life and work conditions. The spread of this type of interactive education would be beneficial to the health of mothers and infants.
