Bu araştırma, engelli bir çocuğa sahip annelerin engelli çocuğun varlığına ilişkin kaygı düzeylerini ve bu konuda etkili olabilecek etmenleri belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya engelli bireylere hizmet veren özel eğitim kurumlarına devam eden beş-onbir yaşları arasında olan, Down Sendromu ve Down Sendromu dışında zihinsel engel tanısı konmuş ellidört engelli çocuğun annesi dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmada engelli çocukların kendileri ve aileleri hakkında bazı genel bilgileri içeren "Genel Bilgi Formu" ile aile bireylerinin engelli çocuğun varlığına ilişkin kaygı düzeyini belirlemek amacıyla "Aile Kaygı ve Endişe Düzeyini Ölçme Aracı (Questionnaire on Resources and Stress)" kullanılmıştır. Abstract
This research has been carried out to study the anxiety levels of mothers by the existence of a mentally handicapped individual within those families. The research has been conducted with the participation of the mothers of 54 handicapped children with a Down Sendrome or other form of mental handicap and attending special education institutions. Within the frame of thlo piece of research, we have used a "General Information Form", aimed at collecting information on the handicapped children and their families, as well as a "Questionnaire on Resources and Stress", aiming at determining the degree of anxiety caused by the handicapped member to the other members of the family. The data have been obtained with a Variance Analysis and a Duncan Test. The results of this research have shown that, mother's degree of anxiety varies according to the mother's age, the date of the first diagnosis and the age of the handicapped child at the beginning of his/her scholarity (P
