Abstract
In the second half of the nineteenth century, the process of modernization created changes in social paradigms. And this change transformed the concept of both children and children's literature. In this context, societies that have undergone changes - it has been an establis- hed fact throughout history- have introduced new literary genres into their literary systems. The modernization process, which started in the Otoman Era as an enlightenment movement, including children's literature, sought to compensate for the lack of the missing literary genres through translations of the works of the French Enlightenment, taking this movement as a model for the products of both children and adult literature. The fact that the intellegentsia of this period mastered the French language, has played a significant role in this effort. The translations have provided significant contributions to the enlightenment process and have paved the way for the creation of a modern society.
