Abstract
Fakîrî, who lived in the 16th century, is a poet known in our literature with his works titled Şehrengiz-i İstanbul (The Specific Genre of Poem Named "Şehrengiz" about Istanbul) and Ta'rifât (Depictions). Aside from these, there are also other works that are referred as his works, including Letâ'if (Emotions), Sâkî- nâme (Beverages) and 57 poems published in certain magazines. However, we have revealed in our investigations that Sâkî-nâme does not belong to him and that it was written in the 17th century After the works of Kâtib and Taşlıcalı Yahya, this Şehrengiz-i İstanbulis the third Şehrengiz written for Istanbul, and we currently have threecopies of it at hand. Based on these three copies, all of the researchers, whoprovide information on this genre, agree that this Şehrengiz consists of 305verses. However, in our investigations, we concluded that the Şehrengizactually consisted of 259 verses; and the remaining 46 verses were takenfrom the Şehrengiz for Edirne written by Mesîhî. As a matter of fact, thedepictions of 23 beauties written in the work of Fakîrî are also mentionedword for word in the Şehrengiz for Edirne written by Mesîhî. Based on theinformation that Mesîhî wrote his work before Fakîrî, we can claim thatthis situation actually stems from a copyist mistake. In the first part of our study, in which we obtained important findingson Şehrengiz-i İstanbul and Sâkî-nâme of Fakîrî, we explained our findingsabout the life and works of Fakîrî. In the second part, the critical text ofŞehrengiz-i İstanbul has been created by making use of two of the presentcopies; and later, information on the contents and characteristics of thework has been provided. As a result, it has been observed that the work isin strong connection with traditions in terms of the reasons for releasing, the depictions, the language used, the rhythm and the verses used.
