Abstract
Starting from the second half of the 18th century, the Âyans hademerged with the weakening economy and changes in the soil regime ofthe Ottoman Empire. The reconstruction activities, which they carried outin the lands under their control, had revealed a new style of architecture inAnatolia. Âyan architecture is a small example of the palaces in Istanbul interms of plans, materials, and decoration.Wall paintings done with the stenciled mural technique, which hadstarted to be seen with the Western influence from the mid-18th centuryonwards, had continued with their rich examples during the 19th century, especially in the era of Mahmut II. This type of decoration, which hadstarted in the capital and then spread to Anatolia, is seen in the TopkapiPalace of Istanbul, and mostly in the mosques, houses, fountains andshrines of Anatolia. The Hadimoglu Mansion is an exclusive provincialsample reflecting the architectural and decorative features of the period.
