Abstract

Reconstructive surgery following mastectomy for breast cancer is achieved by different flaps. After wide resection of locally advanced and infiltrative cancers, early postoperative radiation and chemotherapy is preferred. In order to administer radiotherapy as soon as possible, the flap should be durable, reliable, and should carry minimal risk for complications. Bilobed thoracoepigastric flap was performed following modified radical mastectomy for a case representing with advanced stage invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast and extensive axillary involvement. Bilobed flap provided a tension free donor area and no need for a delay proce-dure. Since no postoperative complications were obser-ved, early radiotherapy was administered. The flap was intact after radiotherapy. The use of a wide flap without a delay period employing this method, modifying thoracoepigastric artery flap, has the advantages of a safe and durable tissue for radiation.
