Abstract

A detachment fault developed due to tectonic stresses of the region seperates the high-grade metamorphic rocks from the low grade ones in the studied area. The high-grade metamorphic rocks consist of migmatites and garnet mica gneisses. Various schists (sericite-chlorite-muskovite-albite schist, garnet-mica schist, biyotite-muscovite schist, chlorite-muskovite-quartz schist, quartzitic schist, calc-schist), phylite, marble and amphibolite constitutes the low grade metamorphic rocks. The high-grade metamorphic rocks shows varius degrees of mylonitization under the detachment fault. In this zone the so called Simav mylonites are of protomylonite, mylonite and ultramylonit characteristics. Mylonitic foliation and lineation are evident in these rocks. Assymetric porphroclasts, mica fish, extensional shear bands and oblique foliation observed within the mylonites are abundant kinematic indicators. These kinematic indicators shows upward-N-NE direction of movement. Excluding the detachment fault, the other structural features developed in the region are represented by high angle faults. These are Simav fault (SF), Kibletasi faults (KF1-KF2) which have normal fault charecteristics.
