Abstract
Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the repair shear bond strengths of four different restorative materials repaired with composite resin following two different surface preparations and adhesive application protocols. Materials and Methods: In this study, 160 pieces of resin composite (Filtek Z250, 3M ESPE), amalgam (Spherodon-m), glass ceramic (IPS e.max CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent) and hybrid ceramic (Vita Enamic, Vita Zahnfabrick) cubic samples were prepared. The samples were stored in distilled water for 24 hours and then subjected to thermal aging. After 40 samples of each material were exposed to surface treatments with air abrasion or diamond bur, Single Bond Universal adhesive (3M ESPE) was applied in accordance with total-etch and self- etch adhesive application protocols (n= 10). Subsequently, composite resin was placed on each sample silicone mold and light polymerized. The shear bond strength test was carried out. The data were statistically analyzed by Three-Way Analysis of Variance and Bonferroni tests (p< 0.05). Results: Regarding the shear bond strength, composite and hybrid ceramic groups were found to present significantly higher results compared with the amalgam and glass ceramic groups (p< 0.05). The bond strength values of the air abrasion groups produced significantly greater than the bur groups (p< 0.05). Conclusions: Although, repair of composite and hybrid ceramic groups using composite resin presented a beneficial outcome, amalgam and glass ceramic groups were produced very low repair bond strength without additional silane application.
