Abstract
Background and Aim: This study aims to model the gingival index (GI) in terms of treatment groups and measurement time by using Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) and Quasi-least squares regression (QLS). Model performances of the GEE and QLS will also be compared. QLS, one of the two methods used in data analysis, is a novel analysis method used in longitudinal data analysis. Materials and methods: The application was performed on 100 measurements of 22 people who received implant treatment. Patients were divided into two groups as immediate and delayed implantation of dental prosthesis. Group and time effects on GI value were investigated. Data analysis was performed with QLS and GEE methods using R software. The results of both methods were compared with each other. Results: In the analysis made according to QLS and GEE, it is observed that the group effect on the GI is not significant in both methods (p> 0.05). On the GI, the measurement times are found to be significant (p< 0.05). Conclusions: Since the group effect on the GI is not significant, it has been understood that the time between implant treatment and the implantation of a dental prosthesis is not an important criterion when determining the patients in the GI studies. When some measurements of patients are missing and measurements are done at unequal time intervals, the data analysis made with QLS gives better results than GEE.
