Abstract
This case report describes the orthodontic treatment of a Class II subdivision patient with the use of a miniscrew supported EZ slider auxiliary for distalization of the left maxillary posterior segment. A 14-year-old male patient was referred to the clinic with a chief complaint of malposition of the upper anterior teeth. Examination indicated Class I molar and canine relationships on the right side and Class II molar and canine relationships on the left side, with a space deficiency for the left maxillary canine. The lower midline was shifted 4 mm to the right, in relation to the upper and facial midline, with the functional shift of the mandibula. To eliminate the functional shift and the dental constriction of the maxillary arch, the treatment began with maxillary expansion using a banded Hyrax appliance. After the leveling of both arches, distalization of the upper left posterior segment was planned with a miniscrew-supported EZ Slider to correct Class II relation and gain space for the buccally positioned left canine. After 15 months of active orthodontic treatment, the patient had Class I molar and canine relationships on both sides, as well as coincident upper and lower dental midlines with ideal overjet and overbite values. Two-year follow-up intraoral photography showed stable results. The miniscrew-supported EZ Slider auxiliary was found to be helpful for achieving unilateral distal movement of the maxillary posterior teeth.
