Abstract

Background and Aim: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of two rotary (OneCurve and Hyflex EDM) and one reciprocating (WaveOne Gold) single file systems in the elimination of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) from ovalshaped root canals. Materials and Methods: Forty-two oval-shaped single root canals were used. Three non-contaminated root canals were saved for the negative control group. Remaining thirty-nine teeth were contaminated with E. faecalis. Three contaminated but not prepared teeth were saved for the positive control group. Thirty-six root canals were shaped with one of the following instruments (n=12); WaveOne Gold, OneCurve and Hyflex EDM. The amount of bacterial load was counted before (S1) and after preparation with single files (S2) using the culture technique in colony-forming units (CFUs). Data were compared using repeated measures ANOVA and post hoc Bonferroni test (p=0.05). Results: The initial bacterial load (S1) was similar for all groups (p= 0.184). WaveOne Gold, Hyflex EDM and OneCurve presented a statistically significant reduction in bacterial count (S2), p
