Abstract

The survey area covers the Yeşilyurt (Pisye) plainin the north, Sarnıçköy (Pladasa) and Akbük Bay in thesouth, within the borders of Muğla. The epigraphic studiescarried out in this area indicate the presence of a koinonbetween Pisye and Pladasa, the two significant cities in theregion. There are also settlements of Londeis (Çiftlikköy),Leukoideis (Çıpı), Koloneis (Yeniköy) in the territory of thekoinon. During the surveys, many different types of burialstructures were encountered within the territory of the koinon, where a scattered settlement model is visible. Thisstudy particularly focuses on vaulted chamber tombs, chamber tombs and rock-cut tombs in the territory. As aresult of the survey, 6 vaulted chamber tombs, 6 chambertombs and 16 rock-cut tombs were evaluated in this study. The date of the vaulted chamber tombs coincides during theMacedonian rule in the koinon of Pisye-Pladasa, whichbegan with Asandros in 323 BC and continued until 197 BCby Philippos V in the region. The construction date of thechamber tombs in the koinon territory points out a periodafter 197 BC within the ruling system of Rhodes. However, the chamber tomb at the site of Asartepe in the abandonedvillage of Tınaz is dated to the Late Geometric period in thelight of the context ceramic findings in similar tombs. Therock-cut tombs that were used in the rural settlement modelin the region have to be dated between IInd century BC andIInd century AD.
