Abstract

Wernicke encephalopathy (WE) is a clinicalmanifestation of thiamine deficiency that developswith ophthalmoplegia, change of consciousness andataxia. The diagnosis of the disease should be madequickly and early because the classical clinical pictureis seen in a small percentage of patients and earlythiamine replacement therapy is important in theprognosis of the disease. Cranial magnetic resonanceimaging (MRI) is the gold standard for earlydiagnosis. In this case report, we emphasize theimportance of early radiological diagnosis in a patientwho developed WE after the attack of pancreatitis andcompletely recovered without medical cerebralparenchymal injury.
