Yapılan çalışma, Erving Goffman’ın en çok alıntılanan metinlerinden Günlük Yaşamda Benliğin Sunumu (The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life) çalışması özelinde benlik, benlik sunumu ve insan doğası kavrayışlarına derinlemesine bir değerlendirme yapmayı amaçlamaktadır.

Abstract

Nabokov’s the latest Russian novel Despair radically differs from other works of the artist in terms of its subject. Written as detective style and is considered a parody of the "great ideas" revealed by F. M. Dostoyevsky, this novel’s the liar, untrustworthy, arrogant and egoistic protagonist-narrator disposes various ways to confuse the reader. On the one hand, he has mythomanic mental problems, on the other hand, has the delusion that he is an artist/writer. The protagonist-narrator Hermann, deep fully obsessed with full of skeptical thoughts, is also a representative of modernity. Hermann, not caring about philosophical and ethical values, makes plans on Felix’s life, which is an occasion for proving that he is a real artist. This current study aims to examine in Nabokov’s Despair novel narcistic patterns and explain co-peer motive through Hermann-Felix duality.
