Abstract

Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande)) which feed on the plant’s flowers and buds can create significant yield losses. Today, there are chemical pesticides which are effective to control western flower thrips but for the plants such as pepper which is collected daily, the implementation of biological pesticides should be preferred especially in the periods that are close to the harvest. As a biological agent Metarhizium anisopliae spores which have contact effect are not harmful to human beings and to the environment. It is suitable to use in greenhouses as it has noadverse effects on natural enemies and no resistance problem. This study wasconducted to investigate the efficiency of Metarhizium anisopliae comparing with in authorizal in Turkey chemical pesticide and to determine its effective dose against flower thrips. The study was carried out in Aegean region in 2008 and Mediterranean region in 2009. Results showed that Metarhizium anisopliae was as effective as thechemical pesticide when we use 100 ml per 100 lt water.
