THE FRUIT AND SEED CHARACTERISTICS OF SUMMER SQUASH (Cucurbita pepo L.) PURE LINES DERIVED FROM IRRADIATED POLLEN TECHNIQUE

Özet

Sunulan çalışma ışınlanmış polen tekniği kullanılarak elde edilmiş dihaploid kabak saf hatlarının bazı meyve ve tohum özelliklerini belirlemek ve daha sonra yapılması planlanan F₁ hibrit ıslahı çalışmasının başlangıç materyalleri hakkında bilgi sahibi olmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada kullanılan 28 saf hat hem meyve hem de tohum özellikleri açısından geniş bir varyasyon göstermiştir. Saf hatların meyve ağırlıkları 1365 g (G10-2) ile 5484 g (G12-1), meyve eni 12.4 cm (G5) ile 26.5 cm (G1-1), meyve boyları 14.7 cm (G10-2) ile 28.3 cm (G8-1), meyve et kalınlıkları 2.2 cm (G10-2) ile 4.3 cm (G5) arasında değişmiştir. Hatlar genelde “krem” renkli tohumlar oluşturmuş, en düşük tohum yaş ağırlığı 14 g ile G13 hattında, en yüksek ise 183 g ile G12-1 hattında tespit edilmiştir. Meyve başına tohum sayısı ise 34 (G13) ve 430 (G10-3) adet arasında değişmiştir.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to determine some fruit and seed characteristics of dihaploid pure summer squash lines and to get information about starting materials of F₁ hybrid breeding study which is planned to be done later obtained via irradiated pollen technique. The 28 pure lines used in this study showed a wide range of variation in both plant and fruit characteristics. The fruit weight of pure lines were 1365 g (G10-2) and 5484 g (G12-1), fruit width was 12.4 cm (G5) and 26.5 cm (G1-1), fruit length was 14.7 cm (G10-2) and 28.3 cm (G8-1), Fruit flesh thickness ranged from 2.2 cm (G10-2) to 4.3 cm (G5). The seeds of the genotypes were found to be cream coloured in general and the lowest seed wet weight was found in G13 genotype with 14 g and the highest in G12-1 genotype with 183 g. The number of seeds per fruit was ranged from 34 (G13) to 430 (G10-3).
