Abstract

Abstract: This study outlines the morphologic characteristics of three Crocus taxa that have neither been collected since their description in 1994 nor been previously deposited in any herbarium in Turkey: Crocus albocoronatus (Kernd.) Kernd., Pasche & Harpke, Crocus kerndorffiorum Pasche, and Crocus paschei Kernd. To this end, we took measurements of morphological features, investigated leaf anatomy and prepared composite images for the two valid taxa, Crocus albocoronatus and Crocus kerndorffiorum. As for Crocus paschei, we propose that it is synonymous with Crocus adanensis. Through the lens of these three taxa, we outline difficulties regarding the collection and study of bulbous plants, and the authors’ views and some recommendations.
