Abstract
The press, which plays a vital role in enlightening the public, took on a majortask in treating the Lausanne Conference that was a crucial event for the Turkishsociety. At the beginning of this process, the Turkish side endeavored to establish aproper communication with both foreign and local press in order to disseminate itsjust causes. To this end, all possible channels were used; however, connections withsome press organizations were cut off due to concerns that they would negativelyimpact the maxim of Misak-ı Milli (National Oath). Accordingly allowances forReuters Agency and Havas Agency were cut off. The impressive dialogue that İsmetİnönü and his team established with the press at the outset of the LausanneConference could not eliminate the prejudice of the West against the Turkish side;yet, it indicated that an unconditioned surrender was out of question. In this regardthe proper connection established with the press helped the conference to producepositive results for the Turkish side.
