Abstract

Ottoman Empire sent soldiers to some European Fronts to help its allies with which it fought during the First World War. Upon Austro-Hungarian Empire forces got worse when they were defeated in the fronts where they fought against Russians, it was requested from Ottoman Empire to send military back-up to European Fronts within the scope of joint resolution of Germany and allies and plan made. Ottoman War Minister and Deputy Commander-in-Chief Enver Pasha accepted the offer for sending forces to European Fronts without any hesitation. The reason for that is Enver Pasha considered that the final result of the continuing war depended on the achievement in European Fronts. The fact that allied Powers defeated in Gallipoli Campaign and withdrew their forces from this front; closed the front and as a result approximately about 100 thousand Turkish forces came to naught affected this decision of Enver Pasha. Enver Pasha decided to utilize three army corps comprising of elegant and skilled military officers and soldiers exceeding 100 thousand people in allied fronts. In this respect, it was decided to prepare three separate army corps and send to European fronts. One of these army corps to be prepared by Ottoman Empire would have been sent to Galicia front. Furthermore, other two army corps would have been sent to Romanian front to fight against Roman army and to Macedonia front to wage a battle against Serbians. The issue of Ottoman War Minister’s sending forces to European fronts with the purpose of helping its allies was evaluated by German General Staff and German Commanders having had senior office in Ottoman army from different perspectives. Some German generals approached negatively to this decision and some supported on the issue finding the decision justified. In this study, the point of views of our ally German General Staff and senior German Commanders concerning Ottoman Empire’s sending forces to European fronts and the justifications of their point of views will be tried to be analyzed.
